In nine films and accompanying conversations Cinémathèque Leipzig deals with ambivalences and conflicts around the figure of the police officer. The film series COPS is based on the following thesis: The image of the policeman or policewoman drawn in films differs from the public image. In contrast to the officially communicated image of the "law and order officer" standing neutrally and at a distance above the situation, the film figure is a torn one. In it, the social, historical-structural task collides with the (also personal) reality of life to conflict-laden ambivalence.

It cannot be denied that the persons in this ambivalence are predestined not to be able to maintain the order they are supposed to embody. Policemen* are just as corrupt, racist, bundling, helpful as all other people. In practice, they transform the violence they embody institutionally into an effective tool of their own actions. In the film such an escalative "solution" of conflict situations is legitimized again and again by making the actions of the policewomen emphatically comprehensible.

The film screenings are accompanied by contextualizing introductions (held in German, sorry ...).
